7th Cohort, 9th Hispanic Legion

When painting this cohort I decided that I wanted to use a natural off white colour for there tunics as opposed to the regular red or white tunics, I think this is more historcally acurate, in addition to this I decided that the pompeian's where going to have a gold theme, brass shield emboss, brass helmets and brass decorations on there sword scabbbards.

The only exception to the theme rule is the Centurian who will always be recognisable with his red tunic and silver themed gear, I hope you like them, I think they turned out alright.

Very nice clean looking unit. The shields work really well. I am thinking of going back and repainting a few of mine just plain red, It seems to scream out 'Roman' and works a lot better than detailed decal work.

Thanks Secundus, Being unarmoured and a basic recruit cohort it seemed fitting that they would have simple army issue items, great blog by the way (iron mitten)keep up the standard.

Great work. I like plain red shields facing the enemy.

The Roman project is over my work table with all my current projects. I´m thinking to make an Impetus Army instead WAB, I need less miniatures.

Less miniatures to paint is always a 'bonus' I think I have about 150 Ceasarian romans ... bought way too much.

That's some fancy painting you've done there.

I'm doing Mid Republican Romans and associated armies at present but due to try Imperial Romans at soem stage in the future.

I agree with Secundus : Red = Roman!
